How to Create a Reminder on iOS
To-do lists are a popular and beneficial tool for keeping track of what’s done and what still needs to be done. Apple’s Reminders is a great (and free) application for this purpose. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could create a reminder for items in DEVONthink To Go? Well, we created a shortcut to make that an easier process.
To get started, download this shortcut: Records to Reminders. Then follow these simple steps each time you want to create a new reminder.
- Select an item in DEVONthink To Go.
- Open the Share menu and choose the shortcut from the list.
- Choose a Reminder list.
- Choose whether the reminder is date-sensitive. If so, choose the due date.
In the chosen list in the Reminders application, you will see a new entry with the name of the item and a link back to DEVONthink To Go. It also preserves tags and the flag state of the original. If there is no URL on the selected item in DEVONthink, a link to the reminder will be added. If there is a URL, the link will be added to the Comment field. This will also work with multiple selected items, but you have to choose a list and due date for each item.
Since Reminders syncs via your Apple ID, this reminder will link to items in DEVONthink To Go or DEVONthink on your other devices, provided you have those databases available.
Due to Apple’s security policies, you will be required to allow the shortcut to access your Reminders and also your items in DEVONthink To Go. Choosing Always Allow will make this a permanent choice so it runs more smoothly in the future.
