Back from the holidays, and freshly organized

10. Januar 2008

Hello everyone, we’re officially back from our winter holidays. I hope that all of you had a wonderful time!

I used the quiet time to organize and archive all the stuff that collected … itself … in the last twelve months. Chat logs, scanned letters, web clippings, and, of course, email, email, email. In an Internet-based business like ours all this stuff quickly takes over all available space — and so attention. Fortunately I am working for just the right company :-) So here’s what I did: … (mehr)

19. Dezember 2007

EasyFind, PhotoStickies, ThumbsUp, and XMenu. XMenu is becoming even more useful now with the switch from folder menus in the Dock to stacks in Leopard.

Copy/Backup Intelligently

11. Dezember 2007

DEVONthink Pro databases are technically packages, folders that appear like a single file. When you simply copy them to another volume as a backup, the Finder always copies the whole thing. And so even do some backup applications, even though only parts of the database have changed. Try ChronoSync. It has the option to treat packages like files which allows it to peer inside the packages and only update the files that have actually changed. Command line fans will want to have a look at rsync (part of Mac OS X,) which intelligently copies only those parts of one or more folders that need to get updated.

Leopard Updates: DEVONthink, DEVONagent, DEVONnote

29. November 2007

Finally, we have updated all editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONagent and DEVONnote for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. And, we have added a few more improvements and new features. Read the news or download the updates. These updates are strongly recommended for all users already working with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Attention users of Mac OS X 10.3.9: All new releases require at least Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Think We're Picking Our Noses?

29. November 2007

In the user forum, whenever someone asks for such features as: opening multiple databases simultaneously, Spotlight support, or the DEVONagent topics map; we referred to the nebulous version 2.0 of DEVONthink. Those features come with huge changes to the underlying architecture. We didn’t want to squeeze these in interim updates. And now many of you are waiting impatiently for it to arrive. But don’t think that we’ve spend the last year picking our noses! We have been developing a brand new product that we’re going to reveal as soon as everything is done that needs to be done. And what is this mysterious, nebulous product all about? Of course it will be highly professional, scalable and ultra-fast. And it will be easy to use, too.

A Frequent Visitor

24. November 2007

Some of the more attentive readers among you will remember that Bill, our always-on customer support, has moved to Indiana, USA, lately. But, even though he now lives in a (fully networked) log cabin someplace in the woods, he is by no means alone! When Bill looks up from his MacBook Pro, he’s often being watched by nice fellows like this one here. Isn’t this cool? (mehr)
